This PDF template (below) is printed black and white and I used colored pencils to color it in. Color and cut along the inside of the gray lines and the finished envelope will be 5.5" x 4.5". No extra postage required. Make a card for the inside and you have a great unique envelope for a friend's special day. I used regular 8.5" x 11" printer paper, it was a weigh of 24 pounds paper and makes the folds easily. Use a bit of glue stick to seal the edges and the top flap and you're set to go.
Think outside the box, every envelope doesn't have to look the same. I checked with the post office and they said it fine to mail it like this. Just be sure to clearly write the name, address and zip code and I put a return address on the back flap.
